เสียงในฐานะวิธีมองโลก

เสียงไม่ได้ถูกมองเป็นเพียงสิ่งที่ได้ยิน แต่เป็นวิธีทำงานกับสิ่งที่เรามองเห็น อยู่ร่วม และจดจำ

ลำธารชี้ให้เห็นว่าเมื่อ AI ถูกนำมาฟัง "ทาง" ของปี่ หน้าทับกราวใน หรือทำนองดนตรีไทย เทคโนโลยีไม่จำเป็นต้องพรากรากวัฒนธรรมออกไป แต่อาจทำให้เสียงไทยกลายเป็นแกนกลางของดนตรีร่วมสมัยได้

สันติพาเสียงออกจากเวทีไปสู่พื้นที่ของภาพ เสียงปั๊มน้ำ แอร์ สุนัข (โซซู) นอนกรน หรือเครื่องพิมพ์ ล้วนกลายเป็นเส้น ตัวอักษร และร่องรอยของการทำซ้ำ ราวกับว่าภาพก็อาจเกิดจากการฟังได้ไม่ต่างจากการมอง

ส่วนสุพิชชาใช้เสียงร่วมกับภาพและความทรงจำของชุมชน เพื่อเปลี่ยนตึกร้าง ตลาด และพื้นที่ริมแม่น้ำให้กลายเป็นสถานที่ที่ผู้คนอยากกลับเข้าไปมีส่วนร่วม

ทั้งหมดนี้ชวนให้มองเสียงในฐานะเครื่องมือจัดวางความสัมพันธ์ใหม่ ระหว่างวัฒนธรรม เทคโนโลยี การออกแบบ และเมืองที่ยังรอให้ผู้คนเข้าไปทำให้มีความหมาย

Sound, in this workshop, was not treated as something simply heard. It was approached as a way of working with what we see, inhabit, and remember.

Lamtharn showed how AI, when trained to listen to the thang — the idiomatic pathways — of the pi, the na thap krao nai, and other Thai melodic forms, need not strip music of its cultural roots. Technology, used this way, might instead place Thai sound at the centre of contemporary practice rather than at its margins.

Santi moved sound away from the stage and into the visual. The noise of a water pump, an air conditioner, a dog — Sosu — snoring, a printer: each became a line, a letter, a trace of repetition on the page. As if an image might be made from listening just as readily as from looking.

Supitcha worked with sound alongside image and community memory, transforming abandoned buildings, markets, and riverside spaces into places people wanted to return to and take part in again.

Taken together, these practices invited a different understanding of what sound can do — not as background or atmosphere, but as a tool for reorganising relationships: between culture and technology, between design and place, and between a city and the people who might yet make it mean something.
